Ace of Spades is a small, local tree surgery company run by life long friends, James and Phil. We specialise in the pruning and total removal of large trees. With over 10 years of experience in providing horticultural and arboricultural services to Stockton Heath, Appleton, Grappenhall, Warrington, Cheshire, and the North West, we have built a reputation for being passionate about tree care and providing great customer service. We are both professional climbing tree surgeons, LANTRA and NPTC qualified to the highest level and fully insured and equipped to remove the largest trees in the northwest. We pride ourselves on using top of the range, market leading equipment to ensure all of our work is completed in a safe and efficient manner at the best possible price for our clients. We also own and maintain all of our vans, chippers, and stump grinders to avoid passing on any expensive plant hire costs.

Our services include tree removal, crown lifting, crown reduction, crown thinning, formative pruning, pollarding, site clearance, hedge cutting, stump grinding, and replanting. We provide free, no obligation quotations on jobs that can be done in half an hour through to fortnight long site clearances. After initial contact, we aim to price up within 3 to 5 days and can accommodate most work within 2 to 3 weeks, with the exception being protected trees subject to a 6-week application process. We closely adhere to industry best practices and legislation with all of our work conforming to the British Standard for Tree Works BS3998:2010 and in accordance with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998. To minimise the environmental impact associated with tree removal, we recycle all of our waste products. The wood chipping from the smaller branches is processed into biomass fuel, and all of our logs, both soft wood and hard wood, are processed for firewood.

Whether you need to remove a tree in its entirety, lift the crown of a tree, reduce the height and spread of the crown, thin the crown, prune a tree to maintain its shape, dismantle trees in a domestic setting, clear a site for development, cut hedges to maintain their shape, or grind tree stumps, we have the expertise and equipment to complete the job efficiently and safely.

Stump Grinding

Once a tree has been removed, a decision needs to be made as to what to do with the remaining stump. We can grind the stump down to a manageable size, usually to about 6 inches below ground level, using the best pedestrian stump grinder on the market. This can be done in any location and usually provides a quote over the phone.

Safety & Legal

We closely adhere to industry best practices and legislation with all of our work conforming to the British Standard for Tree Works BS3998:2010 and in accordance with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998. We are fully insured and equipped to ensure all of our work is completed in a safe manner. We also offer advice and guidance for proposed work and handle the applications required to obtain the relevant permissions for protected trees.
