Plan to Garden is a family-owned business founded by Richard Martin, a passionate gardener with extensive knowledge and experience in garden design and landscaping. Richard's journey began at an early age, discovering his love for gardening. He went on to train at Hillier Nurseries and later gained formal qualifications at Writtle Horticultural College. After a few years in agriculture, Richard returned to his first love and founded Plan To Garden in 1992. Since then, the company has created many acclaimed gardens in East Anglia and beyond. Our mission is to help clients realize the full potential of their outdoor spaces, creating beautiful gardens that can be enjoyed now and in the generations ahead.

Plan to Garden offers a comprehensive range of services to cater to every client's needs. Our services include advice and consultancy, garden assessment, design, and planning. We also provide a fully detailed planting plan and, if required, draw on the expertise of garden lighting and irrigation specialists. Once the plan is approved, we implement it using our own team or work closely with trusted contractors to ensure a seamless experience.

Advice and Consultancy

For clients who enjoy managing their own projects but need access to specialist knowledge, we offer advice and consultancy services. This can include a one-off visit to address a specific issue, such as maintenance and care of decking, resin drives, or turf and lawn care. We can also help with plant selection for challenging spots in your garden or provide ongoing project advice.

Garden Assessment, Design, and Planning

Our comprehensive garden assessment, survey, design, and planning services are where our expertise and creativity come into play. We start with an initial site visit to discuss the client's aspirations and determine what is required from the space. Following the visit, an overall outline garden design plan is drawn up, taking into consideration the factors discussed. If required, a fully detailed planting plan is also provided. Once agreed with the client, a detailed quotation is supplied for implementing the plan, covering all aspects including groundworks, civil engineering, water features, and more.

Implementation and Construction of Plan

Once the plan is approved, we begin its implementation. Our team has the skills and experience to ensure the smooth running of the project with minimal disruption to the client. We work closely with trusted contractors where necessary, ensuring a seamless experience for the client throughout the process.
