Our Story

Ovation Flooring has a rich history that spans over a century. Our journey began in 1895 when George Downing opened a home furnishing store in Hooley Hill, Manchester. George was a skilled cabinet maker and his handcrafted furniture and carpet squares quickly gained popularity. Over the years, the business grew, and in 1925, his son James joined the company. James was instrumental in expanding the business, opening a second store in Ashton-Under-Lyne and marrying Lily Sumner.

As the years went by, the company faced challenging times, including the Great Depression and World War II. However, the Downing family remained committed to providing high-quality products and exceptional service. In the 1960s, James' son Julian joined the company, followed by his brother Adrian in the 1970s. The Ashworth family continued to play a significant role in the business, with Julian and Adrian going on to establish Ovation Interior Flooring Design Ltd. in the late 20th century.
