NJ & CJ Allsopp Cabinet Makers is a small, time-honoured business nestled in the picturesque village of Castle Bytham, Lincolnshire. Our workshop and house date back to the year 1600, and have served variously as a wheelwrights, carpenters, general builders, and undertakers. The rich history of the premises is still palpable, with the original coffin template used by my predecessor and a number of his vintage tools still in my possession. The spirit of Walter Tunnard Naylor, a renowned local craftsman, continues to live on in the village, and examples of his work can be found in every corner.

Our Services

At NJ & CJ Allsopp Cabinet Makers, we take pride in designing and building commissions tailored to our customers' unique requirements. We warmly welcome our customers to visit during the making process and actively encourage their input. Once the piece is completed, we engage in detailed discussions regarding the desired colour and type of finish before taking the final steps and delivering it. Our business thrives on flexibility, and we delight in the element of surprise that each new commission brings.

Our past commissions encompass a diverse range of church alters and furniture, lecterns, offertory boxes, bible racks, hymn number boards, and a myriad of other items. We also specialise in creating various types of domestic furniture, including dressers, clock cases, tables, cupboards, bedroom furniture, fitted and non-fitted kitchens, bookcases, and more. Our expertise extends to manufacturing doors and window frames for listed buildings, where we meticulously craft exact replicas of the original, as well as one-off pieces that adhere to the criteria set by English Heritage and local Conservation Officers. We offer a comprehensive restoration service for antique and other furniture, providing a written estimate for the work required.

Our Timber

At NJ & CJ Allsopp Cabinet Makers, we prioritise sourcing our timber locally, with over 85% of our supply originating from within 50 miles of our workshop. We collaborate with small independent suppliers to offer a wide range of high-quality, kiln-dried timber, including Oak (burr, quarter sawn, brown, and cat's-paw), Ash (ripple and plain), Walnut (black, figured), Cherry, Elm, Beech, Holly, Sycamore, False Acacia, and Cherry. We also utilise Joinery quality Scandinavian Pine for more utility items, such as doors, windows, and cupboards.
