A little piece of Heaven - on Earth

Green Island Gardens, a 20-acre paradise, is a professionally designed series of structured gardens showcasing a vast range of unusual trees, shrubs, perennials, and bulbs. Located in Ardleigh, near Colchester, Essex, our gardens are a haven for plant enthusiasts and those seeking a peaceful retreat. Our gardens, featured in Country Living, The English Garden, and Great British Gardens, have been awarded Travellers' Choice on Tripadvisor and have become a RHS partner garden in 2023.

Our Gardens

As you wander through our 20-acre gardens, you'll discover a series of beautifully designed spaces, each showcasing a unique aspect of horticulture. Our gardens are open to the public and are perfect for those seeking a peaceful retreat or those with a passion for plants. Our gardens are wheelchair friendly, and we welcome group visits throughout the year.

Nursery

Our nursery has grown to supply plants to gardens that Fiona designs for private clients and to meet the demands of our visitors. We offer a vast selection of shrubs, herbaceous plants, and bulbs, as well as ornamental trees for sale. We aim to keep our prices as low as possible, and our staff are happy to provide advice on plants in the gardens and nursery.

Tea Room

Our tea room is the perfect place to relax and reflect on your visit to the gardens. We offer a selection of teas and coffees, delicious homemade cakes, freshly baked scones, and light lunches, including jacket potatoes, homemade soups, and toasted sandwiches. We can cater for groups and private parties, and traditional cream teas can be ordered in advance.

Courses and Events

At Green Island Gardens, we're passionate about sharing our knowledge and expertise with others. We offer a range of courses and events throughout the year, from garden design to horticultural courses. Our events are designed to inspire and educate, and we welcome visitors from all over the world.
