Our Services

Our process begins with a consultation, where we discuss the purpose, dimensions, and preferred woods for the furniture. We also share images of our previous work and can provide scale drawings, perspective views, and in some cases, scale models to help visualize the final product.

Commissioning

Commissioning furniture with us is a collaborative process. We strive to make it an enjoyable and rewarding experience for our clients. We aim to provide an accurate guide to the cost of the work, and if you decide to proceed, we will prepare a detailed design, including scale drawings and perspective views. We also invite clients to visit the workshop to see the project unfolding and make any necessary adjustments. Our goal is to create a piece that exceeds your expectations.

History of the Workshop

Goatscliffe Workshops has a rich history dating back to the 1920s when it was built by Ben Coopland, a renowned furniture maker. After Ben's death, the workshop was passed down to his son, Harry Lawton, who went on to own and operate the workshop until his retirement. Today, Andrew Lawton, son of Harry, carries on the tradition of fine furniture making at Goatscliffe Workshops, blending traditional techniques with modern materials and design principles.
