At R. Lightfoot, we are a family-owned business that has been serving the North East of England for nearly 40 years. Our story began on June 1st, 1981, when Ralph Lightfoot formed the company from the garage of his family home near Bishop Auckland. With the goal of delivering a customer-driven service, we have grown and expanded over the years to become one of the leading electrical contracting companies in the region.
Our Heritage
Today, we are located in the heart of Bishop Auckland and have a team of over 20 skilled electricians who work throughout the North East, from Northumberland to North Yorkshire and across to areas such as Carlisle. Our team is made up of long-serving employees, with some having worked with us for over 20 years. In fact, our managing director, Steve Lightfoot, started his career as an apprentice and has been with the company since 1985.
Investing in Our People
We believe in investing in our people, and many of our team members started their careers with us as apprentices. We offer full-time employment to every apprentice that completes their training and offer training programs to people of all ages. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to access training schemes, regardless of age. Our apprentices come to us via New College Durham and we have two apprentices in training at any given time, who work towards their qualifications over a period of four years.
